Advertising is a commercial use even when the ad is for your own business, so you need a license that explicitly covers paid ads and sponsored content. For online ads — YouTube pre-roll, Meta, TikTok, programmatic — a commercial tier is enough. For TV or radio broadcast, you need the broadcast tier, and the production will usually also require a cue sheet.
| Use | Tier you need |
|---|---|
| Organic post on your own channel | Personal |
| Sponsored content, brand deal | Commercial |
| Paid social / YouTube ads | Commercial |
| National TV or radio spot | Professional / broadcast |
| In-app, in-game or installation audio | Professional |
Royalty-free music is non-exclusive: another brand can license the same track. For most performance advertising that is fine. If the track is going to become the sound of the brand, commission a custom piece instead — exclusivity is the thing you actually want to buy.
Yes, with a commercial license that covers paid advertising. A personal tier does not cover it.
Yes. Broadcast is normally the top tier, and the broadcaster will ask for a cue sheet listing the music used.
No — royalty-free means non-exclusive. If you need the music to be yours alone, commission custom music.
